The best part of my job is working with customers. When we started Voalte eight years ago, I was meeting primarily with pediatric and academic hospitals, which tend to be early adopters of new technologies. Today, our customers run the full gamut of healthcare organizations, from children’s hospitals to community health networks to major academic medical centers and just about everything in between.
What’s most striking to me is not only the wide range of organizations we serve, but also the fact that these very different facilities have the same underlying need for effective communication. Every care team can benefit from quick, secure text messaging. All caregivers can save time with a dynamic directory that shows their coworkers’ availability at a glance. And every hospital needs a way for caregivers to receive notifications from nurse call, physiological monitors and the electronic medical record on an easy-to-use smartphone.
We recently worked with some of our customers to create videos that show how Voalte Platform has improved their communication, collaboration and patient care. Take a look to see how these very different hospitals are using Voalte Platform to tackle very similar challenges.
A large, integrated health system serving rural communities.
Avera Health is based in Sioux Falls, serving South Dakota and the surrounding areas of Minnesota, Iowa, Nebraska and North Dakota through 33 hospitals, 208 primary and specialty care clinics, and 40 senior living facilities.
Jennifer McKay, MD, MS, Medical Information Officer and Internal Medicine/Hospitalist at Avera McKennan Hospital, says that before implementing Voalte Platform, “The old way of communication was fragmented, unreliable and often time-consuming.”
By comparison, after replacing legacy phones with Voalte smartphones, Dr. McKay says, “It’s really nice to have a single device with a directory so I can look up and find very quickly who I need to talk to in order to get something done for my patient. It adds a small-town feel to our pretty big hospital.”
A non-profit, regional community hospital.
Valley Medical Center is an acute care community hospital in the suburbs of Seattle. An entity of University of Washington Medicine, Valley Medical Center has a network of primary care, urgent care and specialty care clinics throughout King County. HealthCare’s Most Wired and HIMSS Analytics Stage 7 recognition are evidence of the hospital’s commitment to using innovative healthcare technologies to deliver high-quality care to the community.
James Jones, RN, BSN, MSN, MBA, NEA-BC, VP of Patient Care and Acute Nursing Services at Valley Medical Center, is dedicated to not only improving caregiver communication at the hospital, but also to using Voalte Platform to help improve patient outcomes. One of his initiatives focuses on better response times to alarms and alerts, which is helping reduce fall and slip events at the hospital.
A world-renown rehabilitation facility.
Recognized as one of America’s Best Hospitals by U.S. News & World Report, TIRR Memorial Hermann is a national leader in medical rehabilitation and research. The rehab facility treats those who have experienced traumatic brain injury, stroke, spinal cord injury, and other neurological or neuromuscular disorders.
According to Carl Josehart, TIRR Memorial Hermann’s CEO, “Voalte has been a real facilitator to keeping our care team at the bedside and with our patients. When we had to have our caregivers leave to answer phone calls when they were providing care, it really slowed down care and created obstacles to coordinating the very complex nature of our care. Our caregivers really enjoy the fact that Voalte frees them up to spend as much time with our patients as possible, but still not be out of touch for critical communication.”
A major academic medical center.
UConn Health is a vibrant, integrated academic medical center that is home to UConn School of Medicine and UConn School of Dental Medicine. The medical center has received national and international acclaim for groundbreaking research, first-rate education and quality clinical care.
Dr. Jaclyn Cox, Hospitalist at UConn Health, describes how Voalte Platform has improved care coordination: “Nurses, case managers and physical therapists are all able to be in constant communication, meaning we’re all updated and on the same page for patient care every day for every hour that we’re here. It’s a huge time-saver for us.”
For me, it’s fulfilling to see Voalte transition from providing a new technology for early adopters to providing a necessary tool for every type of healthcare organization. Now that you’ve seen what we’ve done for Avera Health, Valley Medical Center, TIRR Memorial Hermann and UConn Health, think about what we can do for your hospital.
