For the Voalte Engineering team, it has been a long and exciting journey to bring Voalte Platform to market. That excitement was evident recently at VUE15, where we introduced and demonstrated Voalte Platform to 100 of our customers. I joined our Product Management and Clinical teams in discussing not only the technology behind the product but also the features and benefits that make it so valuable to everyone who needs to communicate efficiently across the healthcare environment.
One of the technology advancements we built into Voalte Platform is the all-new, healthcare-grade Voalte Protocol, a client-server messaging protocol that replaces XMPP. We built Voalte Protocol based on the lessons learned from previous Voalte products. It enables more reliable connectivity over Wi-Fi, monitors client and server network connections, makes faster reconnections, and enables a “thinner” client.
This is particularly important for caregivers, who need to make quick decisions about the best person to contact with a request. If a nurse sees that a team member is not connected to the network, he or she can choose to send a message to a connected team member instead. Voalte Platform Server can also make quick decisions about how to route messages depending upon network connections.
Voalte Protocol gives you a real-time representation of what’s happening in your hospital at any given moment. In a rapidly changing environment, an up-to-the-minute view of every person who’s logged in is a dramatic difference from a static phone list.
In fact, at VUE15, Pam Ramhofer, CIO of Sarasota Memorial Health Care, said the Directory was one of the reasons her hospital decided to upgrade to Voalte Platform. “Two things stuck out to us,” Pam said. “The Directory’s ability to assign a person to a role or multiple roles, and Voalte Admin’s easy, centralized administrative console.”
Voalte Admin is a full-featured tool for administering users, roles, buildings, units, rooms, teams and Quick Messages. For hospitals that have numerous Residents coming and going regularly, or simply need a less time-intensive way to manage staff turnover, this web-based administrative tool provides an easy way to set up and manage Voalte Platform users.
Rick Drass, Manager of Information Systems at Sarasota Memorial, said at VUE15, “The new Admin in Voalte Platform is a huge winner from a usability standpoint. It makes onboarding and offboarding a breeze.”
Another advantage of Voalte Platform is the flexible, open architecture that allows for really rich integrations. It’s vital for healthcare organizations to make systems from multiple vendors work together seamlessly. Voalte Platform is vendor-neutral, and works across virtual or physical platforms. Our customers can integrate their EMR, nurse call, patient monitoring and other systems with our communication technologies to make the most of their existing investments.
Voalte Admin, described above, is built on the same APIs that are provided to customers for automation. Those who want to take it a step further can build their own custom tools using our messaging APIs. I’m looking forward to seeing some of the unique solutions our customers build on top of Voalte Platform.
