I’m excited to announce the launch of Voalte Clinical Workflow Solutions℠, a new way to help healthcare organizations use mobile communication technologies to improve patient care. After six years of putting smartphones in the hands of more than 50,000 caregivers, Voalte is uniquely positioned to offer a robust communication platform as well as the comprehensive clinical services to help caregivers work more efficiently.
Today’s announcement is particularly exciting as I reflect on how far mHealth has come since 2007, when I was a Sales Manager at Emergin (now Philips Emergin). At that time, alarm and alert management systems could integrate with nurse call, patient monitoring, the electronic medical record and lab systems. Unfortunately, caregivers were hindered by the limited communication technology they used to receive notifications from those systems. Armed with only pagers or legacy phones, caregivers were simply alerted to a patient need, with no context to determine criticality or the ability to escalate to backup caregivers.
When we launched Voalte in 2008, healthcare communication started to catch up to other healthcare technologies. Now, Voalte Clinical Workflow Solutions goes even further to bridge the gap, enabling healthcare organizations to integrate all sorts of incredible technology with a powerful mobile communication solution.
As one of its first projects, our Voalte Clinical Workflow Solutions team collaborated with the new UCSF Medical Center at Mission Bay in San Francisco to implement an advanced clinical communication and alarm-management system. By working with UCSF Medical Center’s IT professionals, front-line staff and technology vendors, we coordinated a state-of-the-art alarm and alert management system that sends caregivers context-aware information such as heart rate and other numeric parameters to their Voalte smartphones. The nearly 900 smartphones running Voalte One™ software for 3,387 caregivers and support staff across 71 hospital units at UCSF Medical Center make this the largest smartphone communication project to go live in any healthcare facility in the world.
This is just the start of how Voalte Clinical Workflow Solutions will ensure our customers get the full value out of their technology investments. We will also tie into the EMR, assess patient flow and care collaboration processes, and create work plans to satisfy The Joint Commission’s National Patient Safety Goal for alleviating alarm fatigue.
No matter where you are in the process of upgrading clinical communication, managing alarms and alerts, and implementing new mobile technologies, we can help.
