Connected with Trey Lauderdale As I was walking the halls, the hospital's Voalte project manager stopped me and said, "Make sure you find time to thank Ms. Smith. She went out on a limb to make this project happen. Without her putting her neck on the line, Voalte wouldn't be here and we wouldn't be seeing the success we have seen so far." I had to stop and smile for a moment when hearing that. I had already thanked Ms. Smith a number of times (knowing that she was our main champion at the hospital), and I was definitely going to stop by and thank her again. As I thought about all the hospitals we are live in, I can think of a number of champions who went against the grain, and put their neck on the line to stand up for what they believe in. It's really easy to pick a legacy phone. Switching out the old dying Spectralink phones for the next version of Polycom (or any of the other legacy phone provider) takes little thought and is also low risk. At the end of the day, we all know this is the wrong decision. It is shortchanging a group of caregivers that work crazy hours every week and work miracles in healing our sick. The least we can do is give them the right tools to communicate and do their job efficiently. So this Thanksgiving - besides great family, friends, and mediocre Gator Football - I am thankful for the Ms. Smith's of the world. I am thankful for the champions in each of our hospitals that stand-up for their nursing staff. I am thankful for the IT Director who challenges the status quo to get his caregiver the right communication tools they deserve. In a world where it is easy to take the path of least resistance, I am thankful for the leaders that have the courage to stand up and make the right choices for their caregivers. I can guarantee this Thanksgiving, your nurses are just as thankful as I am that you made the right decision. - All the best, Trey Lauderdale, Founder and VP of Innovation

On Demand Webinar: How to Maximize Your The New Patient Experience Imperative The patient experience, more than just patient satisfaction, incorporates all aspects of the patient's interaction with the healthcare system. The patient experience includes patient satisfaction, patient engagement, and the quality of the care, to name a few. Surprisingly, the patient experience has not been a priority amongst healthcare leaders until recently. And although a majority of leaders (92%) surveyed by HealthLeaders Media put patient experience among their top five priorities, it seems no one quite knows what to do or how to improve it. Welcome to my first blog article, which happens to be written on my new iPhone 4S without a keyboard thanks to the help of Siri and speech to text. No desktop or laptop computer was used in the creation of this article and no apps were harmed in the process. No matter where I go when donning the Voalte scrubs, people stare, and often times (while smiling) ask, "What's with the pink pants?" This is especially true when attending events such as trade shows, networking meetings, conferences, or even vendor fairs. Curious parties from both IT and clinical pass by to see, use, and demo our unique clinical communication tool – Voalte One.
Cedars-Sinai Standardizes on Voalte System Cedars-Sinai, the No. 1 ranked hospital voted by Los Angeles residents for the past 20 years, chose to standardize using Voalte's system after a rigorous one-year research and testing phase. Voalte was compared to all existing and future planned smartphone communication solutions and was selected as the mobile point-of-care communication of choice. The Economist - Adapting personal IT for business: The consumer-industrial complex WHEN SHE STARTS her day at Sarasota Memorial Hospital in Florida, Danielle Reed picks up a smartphone. It is part of a system provided by Voalte, a start-up created to modify smartphones for doctors and nurses. The phone allows Ms. Reed to communicate quickly and easily with her fellow nurses either by calling them or by sending text messages, a number of which are preprogrammed. She can also open specialised apps: one allows her to look up different medicines and their side-effects; another helps her identify pills brought in by patients. Voalte Launches Nursing Blog Series Voalte launched a blog series focusing on nurses, nurse managers and chief nursing officers (CNOs). The blog series will feature the journey of Voalte's new Chief Nursing Officer Terry Anderson as she explores the changing world of healthcare technology. Through her blog, she'll share her journey, offering tips and information for those implementing and using mobile healthcare systems. |
