'Tis the Season for RFP's

October is one of my favorite months of the year.
The weather is finally cooling down in Florida, college football is in full effect (Go Gators), and we are at the start of the 4th quarter mad-dash towards the end of the year.

The end of the year is one of the busiest times at Voalte, and it appears this year will be no exception to the rule. As hospitals are working to decipher what their wireless communication strategy will be in the next 1/3/5 years, we have seen a growing number of Requests for Proposals (RFP's) come in over the past few weeks.

While hospitals seem to have a solid understanding of how to write an RFP for a legacy VoIP or Voice Badge solution, it seems that hospitals and consulting groups are struggling in gathering the right questions for creating a thorough RFP that is geared towards smartphone devices at the point of care.

Here are three areas that are absolutely fundamental when writing a smartphone focused RFP:

1. What is your process for provisioning and maintaining smartphones and their applications? (Managing and provisioning is more difficult than would be expected!)

2. Who will provide clinical workflow design, training, and go-live support for the smartphones? (Remember - it's all about workflow, not technology!)

3. How will the smartphones be charged? What ancillary cases or battery packs are provided? (Charging 20 – 25 smartphones per clinical unit is no easy task!)

Have questions about your wireless communication RFP? Feel free to give the Voalte team a call or email. We will be more than happy to work with your organization in creating a smartphone focused, point of care communication RFP.

- All the best, Trey Lauderdale, Founder and VP of Innovation

You're Telling Me Smartphones Existed Before the iPhone?

Nothing is perfect. Everything has room for improvement. The trick is to work out a way to continually improve. This is not new. There are aphorisms like "pause to sharpen the saw" and "listen to your customers."

Easy to say, but how do you do it? At Voalte, a significant part of the company is devoted to listening to the customer and most importantly...paying attention! The Services department feeds information from our customers and users to the rest of the company in several ways through product plans for future work, and more immediate problems too.

The Economist - Adapting personal IT for business: The consumer-industrial complex

WHEN SHE STARTS her day at Sarasota Memorial Hospital in Florida, Danielle Reed picks up a smartphone. It is part of a system provided by Voalte, a start-up created to modify smartphones for doctors and nurses. The phone allows Ms. Reed to communicate quickly and easily with her fellow nurses either by calling them or by sending text messages, a number of which are preprogrammed. She can also open specialised apps: one allows her to look up different medicines and their side-effects; another helps her identify pills brought in by patients.
